Jeanne Meserve: Pros Don't Crack, Do They?: "I say the good ones do, and so CNN television reporter Jeanne Meserve cracked during her coverage of Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans, LA. While reporting to anchor Aaron Brown her voice trembled a little when she spoke of the dogs entangled in the electric lines, unable to escape, and the rescue workers, unable to help, who watched the dogs succumb to electrocution.
The audience could hear her unsteadiness again as she recounted hearing people trapped in their homes scream for help, but she knew no one could help them. They were the poorer residents of the city, including the elderly and the infirm, many who she believed did not have the means to get to shelters. By the time she relayed reports of bodies floating in flood waters, a cameraman working with a broken foot, and a tale of a crewman's heroic efforts, her humanity betrayed her. Jeanne Meserve choked up, and any listener knew she was crying despite her not being visible on camera."
pinkpointshoes: "Our classes were cancelled today due to Katrina and might be tom. classes have only been in session for 3 days. It's kind of scary. Meg and I were sleeping and I woke up and turned on the TV and it was showing a map of Alabama with one red dot and an arrow that said Tuscaloosa. I was like awesome. We are in the eye of the storm at the moment."
