O NY Times decidiu abordar a crescente pseudo-polémica em torno da entrada israelita na próxima edição do Eurofestival da Canção, mas a parte mais interessante do artigo é mesmo a tentativa do jornalista para explicar em que consiste o espectáculo europeu ao público norte-americano:
"The winner is determined by a complicated system in which each participating nation conducts its own telephone vote, with callers unable to vote for their own nation’s entry.
(...) Held since 1956, and intended to help bring the continent together during the height of the Cold War, the contest has been the source of many execrable songs as well as a few stars, like Celine Dion, who appeared for Switzerland, and ABBA. Though broadcast in many non-member nations in the world, and a kind of model for shows like “American Idol,” it has been greeted with little or no interest in the United States.
